Co-writer, Director of Elvis Evolution, a large-scale immersive entertainment experience merging theatre, live music, projection and immersive storytelling across a 44,000 sq ft space.
The show explored Elvis Presley’s origins and musical roots through the lens of his childhood friend Sam Bell. Audiences arrive at Elvis’s 1968 TV special as he suffers a crisis of confidence moments before stepping on stage, before being taken back to Tupelo with Sam to rediscover the friendships, influences and early musical experiences that shaped him.
The creative approach was to look beyond the iconography of Elvis and reconnect the story to his childhood, his musical inheritance, and his friendship with Sam Bell. The production incorporated previously unreleased interviews with Bell, whose recollections offered a personal account of Elvis’s early life and their friendship in the Black neighbourhood of Tupelo where they grew up.
